Interview with Greg Beeman

Greg Beeman is an Executive Producer and Director for Heroes. He was kind enough to take the time to answer some questions I had regarding his job, his blog, and the upcoming Heroes season.

9thWonders: According to your biography, you are one of several executive producers as well as a director for Heroes. What's it like "wearing two hats"? Can you tell me a little bit about your role as a producer? What does it entail, or what are you responsible for?

GB: Wearing two hats is great, because, usually just when directing gets overwhelming I can transition into producing and visa versa. Sometimes it's hard though when I have to "pull the plug" on myself when I'm irresponsibly going into overtime.

The rest of my job I consider to be overall quality control of the show. I bounce around between every department and aspect of the show, using my instincts to guide me, and try to influence it for the better.

There's a lot of us doing this and we each have different interests and specialties - but luckily HEROES is a big show and there's enough for us all to do.

9thWonders: I know you guys started filming the second season sometime in mid-June. What's your summer been like? What have you been doing the last little while?

GB: I had only a week or two off. Season 1 posted until May and by then we were already well into booking directors, hiring new crew and scheduling Season 2. it's cool tho' because I love my job.

9thWonders: Was it hard to work around the scheduled cast appearances at various events such as Comic-Con and the Heroes World Tour?

GB: Yes. But as far as HEROES goes, the difficult we do daily, the impossible takes a little longer

9thWonders: Can you tell me how many episodes have been shot, or which episode you are currently shooting?

GB: We are currently shooting 8 and 9 simultaneously. 1 and 2 are finished and 3 and 4 are almost finished. 5,6,7 are in editing.

9thWonders: How many of these episodes did you direct?

GB: 5 last year. I will direct 4 this year.

9thWonders: Can you tell me when you'll be returning to posting your blog, Beaming Beeman?

GB: TODAY BABY!!!! Check it out!!!

9thWonders: One of the things you posted about last year, that I'm still eagerly waiting for is a blog dedicated to the music in Heroes. Are you still planning to write this blog? Do you know if there are any plans to release a Heroes soundtrack?

GB: I plan on doing a more extensive blog exclusively about our music at some point in the future. Probably for the season finale. Yes I am, I wanted to do it for episode 23 last year, but wendy and Lisa were to busy. I'll get to it soon. Thanks for the reminder.

9thWonders: I understand from reading the episode description for Four Months later, you directed this episode. Is there any fun tidbit that you can reveal of something that happened during the filming of this episode?

GB: We introduce 2 major new characters and a handful of others. HRG and Suresh are both teamed up with suprising new partners!!!!

9thWonders: Any chance you'd tell me the name of the 5th episode? :)

GB: FIGHT OR FLIGHT?
